The team are delighted to now have a Yahrzeit calendar available on the site plus some words of introduction by Rabbi Kupperman. We are grateful for his support as well as everyone who has contributed to the site
The candle one lights in memory of the deceased cannot be used for other purposes , for instance lighting from it the candles for the 2nd Yom Tov; for these purposes one has to light another candle before the commencement of the 1st night of Yom Tov, or if the Yom Tov is preceded by Shabbat, before the commencement of Shabbat. In practice, every household even if they don’t have to say Yizkor have to light a two-day candle before every Yom Tov in order to take from it the fire to light the candles for the 2nd Yom Tov, and in the case of Yom Tov being preceded by Shabbat, a three-day candle before Shabbat in order to take from it the fire to light the candles for the 1st and the2nd nights of the Yom Tov
